Every figure here comes from the numbers you enter and the method stated beside it: your own commitments, your own paid-in capital, your own distributions and residual value. This site publishes no benchmark return and no fund's performance. What your fund has returned to its investors is your figure, worked from your record, not ours.

Venture capital fund management software is what a general partner searches for at two moments: the first close, when the fund has investors and no system, and the point where a spreadsheet, an administrator's portal and a mail merge have stopped agreeing with each other. A venture fund's investor side is simpler than a buyout fund's and is done by hand for longer: fewer, larger calls, a small number of investors, and a quarterly update whose figures come from a cap table and a valuation policy rather than an audited close. This guide is about the part of fund management that is the investor record, and about what a first fund needs before it needs an administrator.

Decide what the fund manages itself and what the administrator closes

A first fund often has no administrator at all; a second fund usually does. Either way the investors, their commitments and what they were told are the fund's own to keep, and the NAV is the administrator's or the auditor's. Software for the fund covers the first list, not the second.

Call capital in a few large notices and record each one per investor

Venture funds call capital in larger, less frequent notices than buyout funds, which makes each error larger too. Every notice is a percentage of every commitment, computed from the record, sent to everyone, and kept as it went out.

Report TVPI from paid-in capital and the quarter's residual value

The quarterly update carries paid-in, distributions, residual value and the multiples over paid-in. Residual value comes from the fund's valuation of its holdings; the rest is arithmetic over the record, and computing it there stops the letter disagreeing with the last one.

Rapportvo Pro

Keeping the record behind the figure

The worksheets are free. Pro is what happens after the figure is right: the call becomes a notice on the investor's record, the quarter's figures become the report that went out, and next year you can still see what was called from whom, when, and what they were told.

  • Download the notice or the update as a file to send to the investor
  • Your notices and updates without our name on them
  • Save a call or a quarter's update and open it again next quarter
  • Your fund's name and mark on every notice and update
  • Every investor, call and distribution out as CSV in one go, for the administrator or the auditor
  • Send the capital call notice or the update from inside the record rather than by mail merge

What a GP asks before running the Venture capital fund management software

Does it manage the portfolio companies?

No. Portfolio monitoring, the cap tables of the companies the fund holds and their valuations are a different product. The residual value the worksheet uses is the figure that work produces; the record keeps the investor side.

Is it a CRM for deal flow?

No. Deal sourcing and the pipeline of companies are the deal team's tool. Rapportvo's pipeline is the prospective investors the fund is talking to before they commit, which becomes the record at the close.

Can a fund with no administrator run on it?

For the investor side, yes: commitments, calls, distributions, notices and updates. It does not produce a NAV, a K-1 or an audited statement, so a fund that must deliver those still needs an accountant and, at the year end, an auditor.

Will it keep what your LPs ask for, beyond the Venture capital fund management software?
